Hoglet season has begun
Every September the phone starts to ring with the same story: a hoglet, alone, in the open, weighing less than a bag of sugar.
Hedgehogs born late in the year are often too small to survive winter. If a hoglet weighs under 450g in October, it will not manage on its own, so we take it in, warm it up and feed it until it is ready to hibernate or be released.
What it takes
| Task | How often | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Hand-feed the smallest hoglets | Every 3 hours, day and night | Volunteers on rota |
| Weigh each hoglet | Daily | Nursing team |
| Clean pens | Twice a day | Everyone |
This year we have 62 hoglets in the barn. If you would like to help, £15 feeds one for a week: donate here.
